Some causes that can make the internal or external hard drive unreadable or not able to read read properly are caused by bad sectors, physical damage, or crash files. Maybe if the physical damage could be due to the hard disk ever falling down, the SS slot is damaged due to unplugging, the USB port is damaged or rusty, the IC trigger is no longer working.

But if there is a crash file this is usually because when copying and pasting the data it is not yet appropriate but the handheld has been revoked, when installing the application from the hard drive it stops and install stops in the middle of the road, is hit by a virus, etc. Then, the final conclusion is because there is a bad sector, that is, there is a recording scheme that fails so that it does not store the address in each head properly than it does hard disk.

Hard disks that experience or have a bad sector are when one of the clusters on the hard disk is corrupted. The sector does not respond when read by the head of the hard disk. Bad sectors do not only occur on traditional hard disks with magnetic disks that can sound tick-tit-tit-tit, but also can be about SSD-type drives (Solid State Drives).

But you don't need to worry, because your hard drive can be read back easily. But keep in mind all of you, according to my recommendation, please read this article from the beginning until it runs out so there is no mistake about the sequence of solutions.

Types and Kinds of Bad Sectors

Bad sectors on the hard disk are divided into two types of possibilities. First, the bad sectors are physical, so they cannot be repaired and logical bad sectors can still be exploited so they can return.

The difference of each type is as below

  1. Physical bad sector occurs because it is physically a cluster or several clusters on the hard disk. Can be due to dust, wear, or because the hard disk is damaged on the other side which can damage the cluster on its magnetic disk. Hard disk sector damage like this cannot be repaired.
  2. Logical bad sectors occur when a cluster on the hard disk looks like it can't be used because when it is read by the operating system, it reads an ECC (error correcting code) that is not in accordance with the contents of the sector. This is interpreted as an error by the OS. Usually the sector will be marked as a bad sector. If this is the case, we can still hope to save it by writing down the existing bad sectors with 0. Or in the language a few years ago it was called low-level format. The Windows Disk Check tool can fix this type of bad sector.

Well, after you know everything related to a damaged hard drive, then I will give some tips and steps in order for you to do it first. Selemat Coba, friends, but your data can be saved and safe if indeed the damage is not too severe. But if the bad sectors damage is Level 5 and above, it's a sign that the hard drive must be regenerated or bleached and purified again to become New.

Repair the Hard Drive with Check Disk

Previously, to note, you should connect your hard disk as an external drive to a normal PC, and try to follow the steps below:

  • If a dialog box appears indicating that your drive needs to be formatted, click "No", this is very crucial, if you already click "Yes", then your data will be lost. It will be difficult again later, and even if it works, a lot of data will fail or corrupt.
  • Click 'Start', select 'My Computer' or the 'Computer' icon. a drive will appear from the hard disk you just plugged in. Right-click on your drive, select 'Properties'. If it turns out that it's not legible or your hard disk doesn't appear, skip to step 5.
  • Well, a window that displays its properties will appear. Click on the 'Tools' tab
  • Select 'Check Now' under 'Error Checking' to start checking errors on your hard disk. Check the pop-up window that asks if you want Windows to correct the errors found. Also check the box containing 'Scan for and recovery attempts from bad sectors'. Click 'Start'. If Windows then tells you that the hard disk is unreadable and needs to be formatted, click 'No'.
  • If the steps failed too, now we use the command prompt. Click 'Start >> Run >> CMD' or just type 'CMD' after clicking 'Start'.
  • Now type the name of our damaged drive by adding a colon. So for example the damaged hard disk is on drive F, then type 'F:' then press Enter. Because the hard disk is damaged, a warning will usually appear 'The System Cannot Find the Drive Specified'.
  • Then finally, this is the key step. Type 'chkdsk' in the command prompt, wait a while until the hard disk error detection process is complete. Usually fast depending on the amount of deposit data that has been processed on the hard disk. If an error is found, Windows will offer the option to fix it. Select 'y'.
  • Finished

Repair the Hard Drive with Update Driver

Drivers are the most important software tools to connect the functions of the hardware performance mechanism. It could be that the driver that has been embedded on your hard drive is corrupt or invalid. Let's update first.

  • Open Device Manager to do this Click Start, then on the Computer section you do right-click select Properties. Or it can also be through the Control Panel. Generally device managers can be easily found when searched.
  • In the disk drive section as shown above, there are 2 hard disks one is used and the other is our external hard drive. In the brand section of the external hard disk, right-click and select "Uninstall".
  • After you uninstall the driver, please unplug your hard drive and then plug it back into the computer / laptop.
  • Then after plugging in wait until the default driver reading process is complete, just like the first step and then click Update Driver instead of Uninstall.
  • Then your hard drive driver has been updated.

Repairing a Harddisk with Spinrite (Advanced Status)

The tutorial this time is that I got it from an expert computer technician, so you can practice it seriously and correctly. What are the tools needed in this process?

Install the SpinRit application first to the computer then open it, then select "Create ISO or Image File" (this menu is for who want to use a CD to repair the hard drive) ... if the file is finished, it will be directly burned to the CD using nero, daemon tools, burning lite or whatever the software is for burning CDs.

#2. Whereas those who want to use the flashdisk select "Install SpinRite on Drive" then hold the letter key on the keyboard that matches the flash drive letter font, bro and press Install Bootable SpinRite ... wait until the process is complete then press close.

#5. Select the boot menu then select the boot devices menu ... adjust it to the tool you are using ... if you use the CD the boot is set lwt CD-ROM (the CD must be entered into The CD-ROM is the problem if I also lie. If you use a flash drive, please select the USB drive, first boot.

And if you use a flashdisk, select the hardisk priority menu below the boot device (if I am not mistaken, the problem is I have not had time to enter the bios to check it) and the first hard drive is changed to flashdisk ... exit exit bios & saving. Press F10, select yes to save.
