Android Wear with Oreo: Here are the Changes

Google has recently been on the roll. The company is announcing regular updates to the ChromeOS and Android OS platforms. First, we launched a stable build of Android Oreo on Nexus and Pixel devices and provided it to OEMs. Other OEMs, such as OnePlus, Samsung, and Nokia, have also launched Android Oreo. Yesterday, Google announced a stable build of Android 8.1 with support for Google's Android version of Android Oreo (Go Edition), which allows it to run smoothly on low-end hardware-equipped devices.

At this time, we are bringing Android Oreo updates to the platform and adding Android Wear to our long list of updates. In other words, Android Oreo for Android Wear is not as big an update as the Android OS platform. Nonetheless, this is an important update because it shows that Google is still committed to the Android Wear platform. According to our posting by Hoi Lam, Google's developer advocate for Wearables, there are improvements to Android Wear with the Android Oreo update.

  • Notification vibration strength setting
  • Touch lock option for wet conditions
  • Support for 7 countries / languages
  • Notification channel
  • Battery saving background limit
Android Wear with Oreo: Here are the Changes

The major changes to the UI are in a completely redesigned setup app to make it easier for users to find related settings. Other changes include new apps and alerts that make it easy to view app information and permissions, and separate buttons to manage all notifications.

As you can see, the Android Oreo update has not changed much, but improvements improve the user experience. In other words, it is up to the OEM to decide when to release updates for Android wearable devices. At the time of this writing, LG confirmed that only LG Wear Oreo update will be released for LG Watch sports. We hope the rest of the manufacturers will soon follow LG's initiatives.
